Compassionate Pelvic Health Care Rooted in Connection, Education, and Healing

Dr. Allea Francis, PT, DPT, is a pelvic floor physical therapist and Co-Founder of Tonic & Phasic Holistic Pelvic Health. She specializes in complex pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and preventive care for labor and delivery. Her clinical expertise includes treating conditions such as interstitial cystitis, pudendal neuralgia, vulvodynia, PGAD (persistent genital arousal disorder), pelvic organ prolapse, and chronic and complex pelvic pain.

Dr. Allea’s work is deeply rooted in the belief that all people who are dealing with pelvic dysfunction deserve to feel heard, understood, and supported throughout their healing journey. Through a holistic and patient-centered approach, she integrates pelvic health physical therapy with mindfulness, movement, nervous system support, nutrition, and complementary therapies to provide compassionate, whole-body care.

“You can heal from pelvic pain.”

Dr. Allea’s journey into pelvic health began through her own experiences navigating pelvic pain at a young age. For years, she struggled with symptoms including severe bladder burning and urgency, abdominal pain, kidney stones, ovarian cysts, rectal spasms, and pain with tampon use — often without clear answers or understanding of what was happening in her body.

“I remember leaving soccer games in the middle just to run to go to the bathroom at least 5 times.”

After eventually being diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (IC), Dr. Allea discovered pelvic floor physical therapy and experienced firsthand how transformative pelvic health care could be. That experience completely shifted the trajectory of her career and fueled her passion for helping others navigate chronic pelvic pain with more support, education, and hope.

“I completely shifted my entire clinical experience to help those with chronic pelvic pain.”

Her personal experiences also developed a deep sense of empathy about the complexity of pelvic health and the gaps that often exist within traditional healthcare. She became passionate about helping patients feel seen and supported in ways she did not always experience herself while navigating her own symptoms.

Education, Mentorship & Clinical Foundation

Dr. Allea attended University of Missouri, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a minor in Multicultural Studies before completing the university’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program through early admission.

Her graduate studies focused heavily on pelvic health, including a capstone project in pelvic health and clinical rotations in both a pelvic pain clinic and inpatient neuro rehabilitation with a pelvic health emphasis. During this time, she also developed educational resources for the therapy staff to support bowel and bladder rehabilitation for stroke patients.

Driven by a desire to continue specializing in pelvic pain, Dr. Allea moved to Southern California, where she completed an intensive six-month mentorship in pelvic pain. This experience expanded her perspective beyond traditional orthopedic care and deepened her understanding of the relationship between the nervous system, emotions, lifestyle, personality, and pelvic health.

A Holistic & Educational Approach

Dr. Allea is deeply passionate about education, mentorship, and empowering patients to better understand their bodies. In addition to treating patients, she has served as an instructor and faculty member within Chapman University’s Physical Therapy Department and worked as a teaching assistant with the Pelvic Education Alliance, where she further specialized in complex pelvic pain conditions.

Her treatment approach combines evidence-based pelvic floor physical therapy with mindfulness, movement, nutrition, and complementary therapies to provide individualized and compassionate care. She has continued specializing in:

  • Complex pelvic pain

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Pregnancy and postpartum care

  • Preventive birth preparation

  • Pessary assessment and fitting

Dr. Allea believes healing happens when patients feel educated, supported, and empowered throughout the process — not rushed or dismissed.

Outside the Clinic

Outside of work, Dr. Allea loves spending time with loved ones and her dog, Brutus. She enjoys lifting weights, running, marathons, snowboarding, beach days, good food, and relaxing spa days.

As someone who has always been deeply social and connection-oriented, she values community, movement, and creating meaningful relationships both inside and outside of the clinic
